Dear Parish Family:

Metropolitan JOSEPH is almost here! He arrives this Friday afternoon, February 16. Sayidna himself & your parish leadership warmly invite you to the following 4 significant public events!!

Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. he will meet us in the church to set the tone for the weekend. There will be very light refreshment - coffee and cookies, no sit down meal - afterward.

Great Vespers Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. will be followed by Sayidna’s interactions with young adults over more coffee and cookies. (Most of Saturday before Vespers there will be small group meetings of people varying opinions, with Sayidna in a reserved small meeting room at his hotel). There will be no meetings in his room, where he needs privacy & rest.

Sunday morning Orthros at 9:15 a.m. Hierarchical Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. followed by light coffee hour of sweets and fruit. There will NOT be a sit down meal. After he rests a bit there will be one more small group meeting at his hotel.

Sunday evening Forgiveness Vespers at 6:30 p.m. will officially begin Orthodox Lent! We cannot go forward with Christ in life, into Lent, or into His Eternal Kingdom without forgiving!

Our Father in Christ joins us for this unforgettable weekend for the holy purpose of unifying us after a long period of division and disappointment. He believes a new era of change must and will begin. Let us join with Christ Himself and His Eminence in this most worthy adventure!

Yours in God’s love and strong hope of a new day - and a new pastor - for Annunciation!

Welcome to Church of the Annunciation!
Glory to Jesus Christ!

Welcome to the Antiochian Church of the Annunciation in Calgary, Alberta, Canada!

Our parish is part of the Self-Ruled Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America under the care of  His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH. We are a Eucharistic community, dedicated to serving our Lord Jesus Christ through worship in the ancient and beautiful Orthodox Christian tradition, sharing the Gospel with others, rejoicing together in a family-oriented environment. Our services are conducted in both Arabic and English.

The Annunciation (arabic: Bechara) to the Theotokos is one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church celebrated on March 25. According to the Gospel of Luke 1:26-38, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary to announce to her that she would conceive and bear a son, even though she "knew no man."

This date was selected by the Church Fathers to be exactly nine months ahead of the Nativity of Our Lord, indicating that Christ was conceived in perfection at that time "of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary," as stated in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed.

Troparion (Tone 4)

Today is the beginning of our salvation,

The revelation of the eternal mystery!

The Son of God becomes the Son of the Virgin

As Gabriel announces the coming of Grace.

Together with him let us cry to the Theotokos:

Rejoice, O Full of Grace,

The Lord is with You!

Kontakion  (Tone 8)

O Victorious Leader of Triumphant Hosts!

We, your servants, delivered from evil, sing our grateful thanks to you, O Theotokos!

As you possess invincible might, set us free from every calamity

So that we may sing: Rejoice, O unwedded Bride!
